We are dedicated to guiding and empowering families in the Truckee/Tahoe and San Diego area on their journey towards healing and growth. Our mission is to equip parents with the tools and understanding needed to co-regulate with their children, fostering strong and lasting connections within the family unit. Through compassionate support and evidence-based interventions, we aim to build essential skills and insights that empower families to navigate challenges independently. Our goal is for families to develop self-sufficiency and resilience, creating a nurturing environment where each member can thrive.
Our therapy approach, we integrate various modalities and specialized training to address the unique needs of each individual and family. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, which is a powerful approach to processing traumatic or difficult life experiences. Childhood EMDR is a unique skill where we utilizing the power of play and EMDR techniques to engage children and adolescents in therapy and match their developmental level.
Meghan Simon LMFT in the Truckee Tahoe office incorporates Theraplay® techniques to promote secure attachment and healthy connections within the family system. She has received specialized training in treating preverbal trauma and utilize sandtray therapy and expressive arts to provide alternative modes of expression and processing. She is skilled in working with dissociation and use part work techniques to help clients integrate fragmented aspects of themselves and to increase children's interior dialogue with their own nervous system.
Isabel Palmer AMFT, uncovers what words can't express through a foundation of evidence-based therapy deeply rooted in play therapy, attachment, and family systems. Her comprehensive advanced training covers modalities like Child-Centered Play Therapy, CBT Play Therapy, Attachment-Based Play Therapy, Sand Tray, Play Therapy for Trauma, and AutPlay for Neurodivergent Children, making play a vital tool for her young clients. Isabel also partners with parents as a Certified Positive Discipline Educator and facilitates family healing through a collaborative, attachment-based lens.
All of our therapist focus on building pathways for healthy regulation and draw from the latest research on the neurobiology of interpersonal relationships and attachment. We offer individual sessions for parents to build insight, personal regulation, and explore their own attachment strategies with their child. We facilitate parent-child sessions to restore connection, increase a sense of safety, build insight, skills and process difficult experiences together.
Mariposa Family Therapy's approach to working with adoption and trauma, is that we truly believe that children have a fundamental right to their stories. Understanding one's origins and personal history is crucial to developing a sense of identity and belonging. What happened to us shapes how we perceive ourselves and others, as well as how we navigate the world around us.
