Meghan Simon LMFT # 124137

As a little person with complex experiences and many big emotions, I remember feeling incredibly alone and ashamed, as if my behaviors and emotions were beyond my control. That changed when my parents took me to meet a wonderful therapist. While I don't recall much of what she taught or said, I vividly remember how she made me feel: cherished and safe, regardless of how I showed up in her office or what had occurred that day.

During my master's program, I enrolled in a play therapy class. Initially unsure about working with children, that class solidified my desire to be a supportive presence for children, just as someone once was for me.

Following obtaining my masters from Alliant International University, I completed my training at  Rady Children's Outpatient Psychiatry and Douglas Young Youth and Family Services. Both esteemed clinics providing services to children and families in San Diego.

Throughout my career I have had the opportunity and sought additional training  build  expertise in the areas of adoption, family reunification, complex trauma, episodic trauma, childhood dissociation, preverbal trauma, attachment disruptions and children with nuro-complex profiles.

Through my work, I strive to provide a safe and supportive environment for individuals navigating through difficult times, offering guidance and compassion every step of the way.

The most rewarding aspect of my profession is witnessing the positive transformations within the families I serve. Whether it's helping a child heal from past traumas or assisting families in overcoming obstacles, each success story reaffirms my belief in the healing power of empathy and understanding.

As a clinical supervisor dedicated to guiding emerging therapists in their work with children, adolescence   and families . My goal is to equip them with the nuanced understanding and specialized techniques essential for effectively treating complex trauma and emotional dysregulation in their clients and their families.

I will be accepting new in person clients for the Truckee Tahoe office in September 2025.

Growing up in North County San Diego has fostered a strong connection to this community, and I’m passionate about supporting the families here. I specialize in helping children, teens, and their families navigate challenges like trauma, anxiety, big emotions, and complex family dynamics—with compassion, creativity, and connection.

When daily life feels filled with big emotions, power struggles, or constant worry, it’s hard to know where to turn. My approach supports both the child and their caregivers. Together, we’ll look beneath the surface to understand what’s really going on—and build practical tools to strengthen connection, communication, and trust within your family.

My work is grounded in evidence-based practices with a strong foundation in play therapy, attachment, and family systems. I have advanced training in a range of play therapy modalities, including Child-Centered Play Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Play Therapy, Attachment-Based Play Therapy, Sand Tray Therapy, Play Therapy for Trauma, and AutPlay for Neurodivergent Children. Play therapy is a vital tool for uncovering what your child may struggle to put into words, helping to explore their inner world and emotions more deeply.
My integrative approach also draws from my training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. As a Certified Positive Discipline Parent Educator, I partner with parents to foster confidence, connection, and calm at home. In family therapy, I take a collaborative, attachment-based approach to repair ruptures and build lasting emotional safety.

I earned my Master of Science in Counseling with a concentration in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Diego State University, which has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to support children and families. My background includes work in community-based outpatient settings, where I’ve supported children and families facing complex trauma, attachment disruptions, and a range of emotional and behavioral needs. I also bring experience from special education and behavioral therapy in multiple settings.

Seeking support is a powerful first step towards positive change. Therapy can feel intimidating at first, especially for children and families facing big challenges. My goal is to create a space where everyone feels heard, supported, and safe to explore difficult feelings and experiences. I'm here to help you navigate this chapter. Reach out to learn more about how we can work together to support your family.
